802.15.4 is a mesh radio protocol operating in the 2.4 GHz band, operable anywhere in the world, also available for XBee Long Range 868 MHz and 915 MHz modules,
This protocol makes it possible to establish simple direct radio links between devices. This is the protocol to use to replace the use of cables by the radio, when the range allows a direct link.
It is also the recommended protocol when a network includes mobile devices. As the radio link is direct, if a point in the network moves, no route re-calculation is necessary which would clutter the network and slow down or even prevent message transmissions.
XBee Series 2 and Series 3 modules support the 802.15.4 protocol in their Standard (8dB) or Pro (18dB) version
